Reading Aloud 13 A letter of complaint
I am writing to complain about the resident living in the flat next to mine. The woman Mrs. Wong, keeps many pets which give us a lot of nuisance. They produce a lot of noise and create many sanitation problems. First of all, Mrs. Wong’s dogs make far too much noise day and night. All the barking is extremely disturbing, especially early in the morning and late at night, when most residents are sleeping. Worse still, the noise caused by frequent fighting of the cats and dogs makes us feel very uneasy. We have no peace of mind. Many of us suffer from sleeplessness. It is obvious that the noises created by the animals have already exceeded acceptable levels. As far as hygiene is concerned, Mrs. Wong’s flat is just filthy. When I walk past her door, I often see the animals urinate and leave faeces everywhere in the flat, giving off a very stinky odour. It is unbelievable that she simply does not bother to clean up her own flat. Many of us have to shut the windows in our flats in order to keep out the smell, which is very inconvenient and troublesome. Even worse, there is a possible spread of diseases because of the extremely poor hygienic conditions. I would appreciate it very much if you could take immediate action to warn Mrs. Wong and tell her to address all the problems mentioned above. If the situation does not improve, we will need to take appropriate legal action. Yours faithfully, Peter Chow
