Won't it be surprising to you that most Hong Kong citizens have experienced respiratory disease because of the unclean air in Hong Kong? My passage is called "Clean Air". It starts by telling the readers that unclean air can be dangerous to our health. The passage also reports a group of teenagers who were involved in a campaign to raise public awareness of the need for clean air. Right from the start, the writer argues that even though not all the respiratory diseases, as experienced by many Hong Kong people, are caused by unclean air, the writer firmly believes that unclean air is not good for us. Sharing the same point of view, a group of schools organized a poster design competition. The purpose of the competition is to arouse teenagers' awareness of the need to have clean air. In fact, Mr Ellen Wong, the organizer of the competition, believed that the flight against pollution is not only the concern of politicians, but also the concern of young people. Therefore, the fight against pollution should start from schools. The passage next mentions the winner of the poster competition, Johnny Chan. Johnny delivered a number of messages in his winning poster. For example, Johnny said that cars should use cleaner fuel, and there should be tighter control of emission from factory. The passage points out the important fact that the source of pollution actually comes mainly from construction sites and vehicles, not so much from factories. Finally, the writer urges the government to pass tighter regulations to control pollution, and it is also very important to educate the public about the need to tackle the problem effectively.
