Giant Winter preys on the earth,
Gripping with talons of ice,
Squeezing, seeking a submission,
Tightening his grip like a vice.![](../sound)
Starved of sunlight, shivering trees
Are bent by his torturing breath.![](../sound)
The seeds burrow into the soil
Preparing to fight to the death. ![](../sound)
Giant Winter sneers at their struggles,
Blows blizzards from his frozen jaws,
Ripples cold muscles of iron,
Clenches tighter his icicle claws.![](../sound)
Just as he seems to be winning,
Strength suddenly ebbs from his veins.![](../sound)
He releases his hold and collapses.![](../sound)
Giant Spring gently takes up the reins.![](../sound)
Snarling, bitter with resentment,
Winter crawls to his polar den,
Where he watches and waits till it’s time
To renew the battle again.![](../sound)
